In an emergency, dial 911.

The Closter Volunteer Ambulance and Rescue Corps is a vital member of the northern Bergen County community. Here are some of the programs and services we offer local residents.

Loan Closet

The Loan Closet allows members of the community to borrow crutches, walkers, canes, or wheelchairs free of charge. (Wheelchairs are generally short in supply and are not always available). Visit the CVARC building if you need this type of equipment.

If there is a car in the parking lot, simply knock on the door. If no one comes to the door or if no one is at the building, pick up the phone labeled "Phone to the Closter Police" in the brown box to the left of the front door, and inform the Closter Police who you are and what equipment you need. You only need to fill out and retain a copy of a release form. When you no longer need the equipment, return it to the Ambulance building along with your copy of the form with the date on which you returned the item.

Public Education

The Closter Volunteer Ambulance and Rescue Corps offers the community the following American Red Cross certified classes:

  • Adult CPR
  • Infant and Child CPR
  • Community First Aid
  • Till Help Arrives (Ages 6 to 9, informative only)
  • Professional CPR (Dr's, RNs, EMTs, Police and Fire)
  • Automatic External Defibrillator (Must be 18 or older)

Certified American Red Cross instructors, who are also volunteers, teach all classes on the premises of CVARC. Upon successful completion of each class, one will receive a certification valid for one to three years, depending on whichever classes taken.

The Corps also offers CPR and First Aid demonstrations to schools, Boy/Girl Scouts, and other clubs or associations, free of charge. However, such demonstrations do not entitle participants certification cards. Any one interested in obtaining information or enrolling in any of the above classes should call the ambulance building at 201-768-3339 and leave a message with name and phone number. All calls will be returned promptly.
